ARTIST PROFILE

Joe Fidia was born in Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada. 
His meditative paintings are recollections of the landscapes he experienced while living on both the east and west coasts of Canada.  Although the light and landforms of the paintings differ, they all express a quietness.
Fidia's paintings begin with a general sketch, usually completed in vivid reds and yellows, outlining the gesture and form he wants to express. The image is built up by applying thin washes of acrylic paint and varnish.  Then the paintings are scraped and sanded to reveal the different layers of colour beneath.
Joe Fidia and his family now make their home in Ste Anne de Bellevue, Quebec.
